Did you know?!

The United Nations designated June 8th as World Oceans Day at the 1992 Global Environment Summit in Rio de Janeiro to draw people’s attention to the beauties, values, vulnerability, and indispensability of marine life. After all, we all depend on it. Every second breath is provided by the oceans, these vast bodies of water make up 70% of the Earth’s surface, produce half of the oxygen we breathe and absorb a quarter of the carbon dioxide emitted. 95% of the habitats are connected to the seas, which are home to 2 million species. This seemingly inexhaustible resource is, however, in danger – it is in the interest and the responsibility of all of us to change that. The Herend Porcelain Manufactory also considers it important to draw attention to this, and that is why we have selected some marine creatures from this incredible species richness.

We’re especially proud of the newly designed Reserve Collection Octopus figurine.

Only the artistry of Herend could create such fluidity and motion out of a porcelain figurine. With a striking swirling pattern combined with arching legs that were seemingly caught in mid-movement, a complex, active scene arises creating the illusion of an octopus stirring before our eyes as he slithers across the ocean floor. With the addition of beautiful colors pulled directly from the aquatic realm, the mise en scène is complete.
