HEREND RESERVE COLLECTION BUDDHA

Meaning “The Awakened” or “Enlightened One,” Buddha was the title given to Siddhartha Gautama, believed to have lived 563-483 B.C. According to legend, Gautama left a life of luxury at age 29 and devoted himself to years of contemplation and self-denial, finally reaching enlightenment while meditating beneath a tree. Henceforth, he spent his life teaching his beliefs and achievement of the enlightened state of Nirvana. Herend’s Reserve Collection Buddha is modeled after a smaller version sculpted in 1937 by Kata Gacser. The chinoiserie design decorating Buddha’s robe was created in 1996 to symbolize autumn, with its glorious colors of nature offset by a sense of mourning over the pending harshness of winter. The skills of eighteen Herend craftspeople are required to create each piece, which takes over a day to paint. Limited Edition Size 250 (8.6″H)
