The Chrysantheme d’or tea set features a brick-red surface adorned with an intricate arrangement of chrysanthemums meticulously painted and adorned with lavish gilding. A grey border encases the design, accented by golden stripes and interwoven with a gilded chain of scrolls. The cup is elevated by a tall gilded foot, embellished with oval and round openings. The handle’s base is unadorned in white and takes the shape of a bearded Chinese figure with folded hands over his chest, attired in a grey shirt and red pants. This chinoiserie motif stands out for its understated elegance. The chrysanthemum motifs hold significance, symbolizing the beauty and magnificence of autumn, while also reflecting some of its melancholic aspects.
