Herend has become the world leader in crafting luxury handmade porcelain. When people hear the name Herend, they think of high-quality luxury porcelain, which is the part of Hungary’s national image, it is also called Hungaricum. The Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix organizers also trust Herend Porcelain Manufactory to design and create the victory and constructors’ trophies for the 2024 Hungarian race. The traditional design of these trophies has become iconic.
The vases are hand-painted by artists of Herend in neoclassical style, reminiscent of ancient vases. The innovation comes from the annually updated decorations. This year, the choice is a special pattern created by master painters of Herend Porcelain Manufactory.
The decoration of the Formula 1 trophy is based on an Oriental Herend pattern. This unique pattern is called the “Imperial Peony” (Pivoine imperiale), featuring a stylized green rose with plant tendrils and leaves. The body of the trophies has a beige base colour. The silhouette of the Hungaroring, referring to the Hungarian Grand Prix, is placed on the trophies. For the constructors’ Herend decorative plate, the craftsmanship is further enhanced by a pierced edge, a special Herend porcelain technique. The pierced edge features the red-white-green colors of the Hungarian flag, reflecting Hungary and the unique nature of Herend porcelain. The trophies are decorated with real 18-carat gold accents.
The creation of the trophies took about six months. Each Herend porcelain trophy is a unique masterpiece, made exclusively for the 2024 Hungarian race, from the first touch of the material to the final brushstroke. Whoever possesses it owns a genuine masterpiece in a single example! Winning a Herend Trophy in Formula 1 has become a prestigious achievement. Of course, both the painted decoration and the vase shape are crafted using artisanal techniques, showcasing the talent of the Herend artisans.
